Of Oblivion and the eventual disappointment of all things…

March 28th, 2006 by Atomictumor

A few years ago I got Morrowind for my computer, which was an excellent freaking game, albeit too advanced for my simple computer to properly display.  Morrowind is a single player hack and slash game, where you have a first person view of an enormous world with complete freedom to do whatever you want.  Do you want to collect silverware?  Go ahead.  Theres even people who’ll be happy to buy your collection.  Want to become everybody’s best friend?  Go for it.  Do you want to steal everybody’s clothes so the whole world runs around in their underwear?  I haven’t tried it, but if you have light enough fingers I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. For those with more of a sadistic bent, you can kill everybody you see.

Or you can play the game as its presented, with quests and whatnot.  Thats cool too.

Anyway, this game was freakin awesome, and I spent pretty much the whole thing of 2003 playing that game every chance I got.  The developers of the game, Bethesda, started teasing everybody with hints as to what the sequel to the game (really the fourth part in the series, but the first two games appeared to be DOS based wonders, and I never played em) would be, and the fact that they hardware required to play the game hasn’t been made yet.  Ooo.  For two years I waited with bated breath for the next part in the series to come out, through all the release date setbacks and sneak peaks, with the incredible screenshots and vistas…

Well, Oblivion, the next part in the series, came out.  And it didn’t live up to expectations.  Sure, its good, but Morrowind is REAL good, and it just wasn’t up to par.

And thats the thing.  Mebbe I’m turning into an asshole in my old age, but seems like the past year all the things I love have had meh followups.  Heres a MIGHTY LIST:
